WILLIAM “BILL” SHELTON SR. was born to Mildred Shelton and the late Billie Edward Shelton was born August 11, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bill as he was affectionately known as, participated in various high school extra curricular activities like track, drama, debate team and soccer contributing to the well rounded man he is and will be remembered as.
As a result, Bill graduated from University City High School in 1975 with honors. Bill accepted Christ at a very young age attending Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bill would become a committed and valued member of the congregation, community and servant within the church.
Bill attended Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where he majored in history completing his Bachelors of Arts in 1980. Bill pledged into the Delta Theta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc. at Penn State University in the Fall of 1977. Additionally, Bill was instrumental in chartering a chapter on the campus of Bloomsburg University, leaving an even greater legacy behind as an active lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. for 41 years.
Bill was a “jack of all trades” and no stranger to hard work throughout the duration of his life. Bill was consistent in courting and ultimately marrying the love of his life Charlotte Shelton. Out of that union they had two sons: William Edward Shelton II and Malik Thomas Shelton Sr. Bill and Charlotte Shelton was married 30 years, each day filled with consistent love, consistent happiness and hard work.
Throughout his life, Bill had a number of beneficial jobs including being a Youth Aide at Northern Homes and Event Set-Up Supervisor at the Germantown Cricket Club. His strong work ethic modeled honest pay, integrity and leadership for his sons. Maintaining the role as “the family man” was a responsibility that Bill did not take lightly. Bill was known to enjoy various hobbies including watching historical documentaries, Jeopardy and cheering for the E-A-G-L-E-S/EAGLES! Through love and ongoing mentoring, Bill lent his time and talent to guide youth in the community, schools and church; providing authentic leadership and scholarly support to those who needed it. Bill was widely known for his dedication to the Philabundance program, usher board and church council at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.
William “Bill” Shelton Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Billie Edward Shelton and brother, Michael Edward Shelton Sr. Bill leaves behind a host of friends and family
including: wife, Charlotte Shelton; mother, Mildred Shelton;
sons, William Edward Shelton II and Malik Thomas Shelton Sr.
(Alexis); grandchildren, Autumn Shelton, Malik Shelton Jr. and
Zoey Shelton; brothers, Aaron Shelton and Anthony Shelton.
