Beginnings
Sheila Victoria Reedy was born on March 26, 1950 to the late Edward and Mary Anderson. She was the 2nd of 5 children born to this union. Sheila was educated in the Philadelphia School District. Sheila attended and graduated from Reynolds Elementary, Vaux Jr. High School and Simon Gratz High School. Upon graduating from high school, Sheila attended Temple University for Early Childhood Education. Sheila was employed by Episcopal Hospital, Lincoln Day Nursery, Fidelity Bank, and St. Vincent’s.
Life
Sheila grew up in North Philadelphia with her four siblings Janice, Denise, Michelle, and Sharon Anderson whom she loved very much. After graduating high school she met and married Nathaniel Reedy II in 1968. From this union they had one son: Nathaniel Reedy III. After her divorce from Nathaniel Reedy II, Sheila met and married Jacob Oteng on September 13, 1997. Sheila always had a deep love for children. She operated a licensed daycare in her home for 10 years and served as foster mother for over 35 years. She adopted three children: Darrion Gillian, Emmanuel Cousins and Sheeba Cousins. Sheila also cared for her nieces Monique Faizon and Alycia Norris, and her great nieces Ciera Britton and Samia Allen, whom she taught, cared for and loved.
Sheila was a faithful and active member of Germantown Church of the Brethren where she could found every Sunday in worship. Sheila learned how to make videos on Facebook and every free moment she had, Sheila was making a video inviting all her friends and family to church. On January 19, 2019, Sheila Victoria Reedy departed this life for her eternal home. She was preceded in death by: her son Nathaniel Reedy III; parents Edward and Mary Anderson; sisters Janice Anderson, Denise Johnson, and Sharon Anderson, and one niece Aileen Faizon.
Sheila leaves to mourn, her sister Michelle Anderson-Burgess (Lester), brother Stanley “Butch” Butt, grandson Nathaniel Reedy IV; granddaughter Nikisha Reedy; two great- granddaughters Nahiyah and Nyla Reedy; nieces Janice Stewart, Crystal Anderson, Alycia Norris, Monique Faizon, and Sakiya Amira; nephew Reverend Antonio Anderson (LaRonda); one great nephew Alex Stewart, ten great nieces: Ciera, Aricka, Attallah, Alexus, Jazzmine, Samia, Destini, Aleah, Aneesa and Jada and a host of family and friends.
