Sheila Marie Collier was born on October 6, 1946 to the late Edward Collier and Thelma Butler. Sheila or Mom-mom as she was affectionately called by all, was educated in the New Brunswick, NJ public school system graduating from New Brunswick High School. Mom-mom accepted Christ at an early age when she joined Bethel AME Church in Metuchen, NJ.
After high school Sheila, worked as a paralegal, community day care teacher and she also was the coach of the neighborhood drill team, Black Pride. She was a mother figure to all of the children under her care.
In 1979, Mom-mom along with her children moved to Philadelphia. Mom-mom had a passion for cooking, anyone who came to her home was sure to get a good meal. She would help anyone in need, she would never see anyone she loved or cared about without a place to stay. 5620 Hazel Avenue became a safe haven to many in need. She would give her last to make sure the people she loved had everything they needed.
In 1984, Mom-mom became a foster parent with the Department of Human Services, over the years she has raised and care for a countless number of children. Up until the present, there were still children under her care.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory six children, Yvette Thomas (Darrell), Shawneir Collier, Keith Collier (Terri), Thembi Maiden, Emily Johnson and Jeanette Collier; one special daughter, Tamika Joyner (John); one bonus daughter, Ayanna Wilson; nineteen grandchildren, Teddy Mack, Antoine Rice, Andre Collier, Ashley Thomas, Briana Thomas, Davontay Freeman, Keith McGriff, Kamira Collier, Subria Johnson, Byaan Collier, Kaiya Newell, Kaylin Johnson, Taylah Collier, Stanley Newell, Kimora Jackson, Kayleigh Collier, Ariyanna Wilson, Ivan Williams and Bailey Driggins; four great-grandchildren, Kennedy Collier, Kaden Collier, Skylar Smith and King Mack; two sisters, Carol Benson and Joanne Benson; three nieces, Wayaka Jordan, Shabri Benson and Sabina Benson; two nephews, Mandas Jordan and Kareem Benson.
