Obituary

JOSEPHINE ELIZABETH WHITEHEAD, the daughter of the late Robert and Bertha Lessico Vanlue of South Carolina, departed this life on August 5, 2018, peacefully at home in East Lansdowne, PA.
Josephine was born February 22, 1930, in Pacolet Mills, South Carolina. Growing up in Pacolet Mills, Josephine joined fellowship with the Montgomery Chapel Baptist Church where she accepted Christ at a young age. She was educated in the Pacolet Mills school system and after graduating from Gaffney High School she relocated to Philadelphia where she joined the New Bethlehem Baptist Church. There she met and married the late Levi Washington Whitehead Sr. She was active in many ministries including the Usher Board and the Dorcus Circle.
Josephine was affectionately known as mom or mom-mom to many. She charmed the hearts of all, especially those who joined her for those special Sunday meals. The Sunday meals included many dishes, but some of the favorites were fried chicken, mac & cheese, candied yams, green beans, and a verity of delicious cakes. She made pound cake, coconut cake, strawberry cake and let us not forget her famous German chocolate cake loved by many. She treated everyone like family and welcomed them with open arms. She will be missed but not forgotten, because her unfailing, unconditional love and special smile will shine in our hearts and memories forever.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Bertha Lessico Value, her brothers Clarence Littlejohn and Joseph E. Vanlue, her sister Lilian Littlejohn and her son Levi Washington Whitehead Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Hortense Johnson (Gregory D.), Theodore Whitehead (Jacquelyn P.), eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
