HERBERT CORNELIUS BRUCE, the youngest child of Rhodie Vessel and Percy Bruce, was born August 23, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 
Born, raised and educated in Philadelphia, he graduated from Overbrook High School in 1951. During his time at Overbrook, Herb earned many awards and acknowledgements in track and field.
While enjoying life, Herb met Lillian Lennon. They were married June 1, 1951 and from their union they had Cornelius and Jacqueline (Jackie). While continuing to enjoy life and raise a family, including his son Anthony from a previous relationship, he joined the United States Army in February 1953. He was honorably discharged February 1955 at the ranking of Corporal. 
Herb worked for Philadelphia General Hospital until its closure in 1977. He also worked for the Medical Examiner Office, Boeing Aircraft and as an Asbestos Survey Field Inspector for the City of Philadelphia.
Herb enjoyed playing pool, playing all kinds of musical instruments, riding his motorcycle (Mission Impossible), playing chess, hanging out with his friends at the number house (LOL) and telling elaborate stories of his childhood. 
Herb leaves to mourn him, his older sister, Lonie (Ray) Spell of Richmond, Virginia; two sons and a daughter, Anthony, Cornelius and Jacqueline Bruce; two grandchildren, LaToya Bradley and Christopher Doyle; two great-grandchildren, Christiana (Chrissy) and Shaun, Jr. (SJ); along with a host of other family and friends.
