Born in Philadelphia
Resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

DOROTHY MARIE ELEBY, 75, returned to her heavenly home on January 28, 2019 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Dorothy was born on March 10, 1943, in Philadelphia to the late Rosie and Moses Thomas Eleby Sr. She was the third eldest of ten children. In 1946, at the age of three, she moved to Burgaw, NC to live with her grandparents Mattie and Marshall Eleby, where she stayed until she returned to Philadelphia at the age of eight. Dot, as she loved to be called, was educated in the Philadelphia School System.
Throughout her life, she has worked several jobs, one of her favorites being a teacher’s aide. Children brought Dot so much joy. At the age of 20, she gave birth to her one and only child, Stacey. This was one of her greatest accomplishments.
Dot loved her family and helped in any way that she could. She was a very loving and kind person who was protective of her loved ones, some may even say she was a “defender of the weak”.
She regularly opened her home to many. Helping to raise three of her nieces and nephews - Danielle, Arthur, and Jefré was some of her happiest times. It brought her so much joy to have them with her and she cherished every moment.
In her spare time, Dot, loved reading novels. She was known to finish a book in a day. She was a spiritual woman, who has read the Bible cover to cover. Dot loved to pamper herself some might even say, she was a little vain. Crocheting was one of her favorite pastimes as well as, watching soap operas, playing pinochle (as she was known to rub many heads), backgammon, singing (although she wasn’t the greatest) and dancing like there’s no tomorrow.
She is survived by her daughter Stacey, grandchildren: Angelique, Sierra, and Jamir, Siblings: Moses Thomas Jr., Delores, Barbara (Kenneth), Brenda, Wayne, Tyrone (Bernice), deceased-Charles, Willie Mae, Henry Ronald and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved her dearly.
Lovingly submitted,
The family
