CRAWFORD EUGENE SIMMS was born on August 29, 1930 in Wildwood, NJ.  He was the third son of Helen and Wilfred Simms.

His family moved to Philadelphia, PA, in the mid-1930’s and he attended elementary and high school in Philadelphia public schools.

In 1949, at age 19, Crawford enlisted in the army.  After serving in the military, he went to work for the US Post Office, in Philadelphia, as a Carrier in the city.  He served over 37 years of postal and military time, upon retiring in 1999, he stated, “It’s time to move on.”

Crawford enjoyed sports and was a very good player too.  He loved the thrill of competition.  He was an avid tennis player and tournament bowler.  And, he took up photography as a hobby.

He became a tennis coach in the Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education Tennis N’ Tutoring program in 2006 and was associated with the USTA/Middle States leagues and tournaments.

In his later years, he liked learning and figuring out the latest in computer technology and listening to his music, especially, Andrea Bocelli and Lester Young.

Crawford left us peacefully on the morning of February 5, 2019.  He leaves wonderful memories and life’s lessons to: his children, Alan, Kirk, Mark, Gail and Nikkol; Grandchildren, Great and Great Great-Grandchildren; siblings, Wilfred, Abdur-Rashid, Yvonne and Janet; as well as, many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and In-Laws.
