WILSON WAVON WASHINGTON, JR. was born on August 15, 1978 to Sharon McCurdy and Wilson Washington in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wilson was the third oldest child of his parents Sharon and Gordon Sanford, Sr.
Wilson attended schools in the Philadelphia School System. When it came to playing basketball he was a natural and enjoyed playing in the Sonny Hill Basketball League. His skills afforded him to be recruited by several high schools. After a few years at Franklin Learning Center, Wilson received a scholarship to attend Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham, North Carolina. After graduating from Mt. Zion Wilson received a scholarship to attend college in California.
After returning to Philadelphia Wilson met and married Yolanda Hegerman. There were three sons born through this union; Wilson, Christian and Ethan.
Wilson held various positions throughout the Philadelphia area. He received a certificate in nursing and worked at Einstein Hospital. Wilson was an independent barber who worked at Just My Style Beauty Salon and cut hair for family and friends. He also worked in a few neighborhood grocery stores. Due to Wilson's passion for basketball he would help his cousins enhance their skills. When coaches recognized his knowledge of the game they would welcome his input on the sidelines.
Wilson had a passion for music and entertainment. He enjoyed dancing, singing and rapping. Wilson was the life of the party at family cookouts and reunions, and family gatherings. He also enjoyed cooking for his family and making YouTube videos. His nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart. Wilson's sons were the love of his life.
When Wilson was born, Sharon and Gordon were attending Open Door Mission Pentecostal Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend James L. Ballard, Sr. and then Bishop Maureen L. Davis. Wilson later joined True Fellowship Church, Inc. under the pastorate of Bishop Howard A. Jones, Sr. Afterwards Wilson and Yolanda joined Abounding Love Church, Inc. under the pastorate of Elder Dywonne Simpson.
Wilson was preceded in death by his father Gordon Sanford, Sr., his godfather Pastor George McCurdy, Jr., his grandparents L.E. McCurdy and George McCurdy Sr, Anna Mae Sanford and Joseph Demby; grandmother-in-law Saundra Fulwood; nephews Curtis, Jr., Kyle and Andre, Jr.
Wilson leaves to mourn his passing his wife Yolanda; sons Wilson, Jr., Christian and Ethan; mother Sharon; siblings Curtis (Denise), Andre, Gordon, Jr., (Terry), Shanna and Shanice (Eric); mother and father-in-law Michelle and Robert; sisters and brother-in-law Maurice, Veronica, and Serena; a host of nieces and nephews; a host of aunts and uncles; hundreds of cousins, godchildren Trinity and Shayne; godmother Dianne McCurdy; close brothers John Green, Wayne Hunter (deceased), Tyrone Minter & Demetrius Brown.
