Venus Martin was born on February 4, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Robert Lee Martin Jr. and Margaret Vadella (Goudy) Martin. Venus departed this life on July 5, 2025, after battling health issues.

Although she was born in Philadelphia, Venus lived the first three years of her life with her grandmother, Carrie Armstead, in Bermingham, Alabama. When Venus moved back to Philadelphia, her family lived in South Philadelphia, until she was 6-years-old when they moved to West Philadelphia. Venus and her siblings attended John Bartrum High School in Southwest Philadelphia.

Venus met Thomas McMillian at a young age and was gifted with the love of her life, her only son, Tyler Martin. Venus and Tyler grew together and experienced the love, companionship and friendship that knitted them together for life.

Venus met and married Gary Aguilard of Philadelphia, PA. She went back to school, earned her GED and went to work for the US Postal Service for several years.

Finding herself a single mother, she defied the statistics of what was thought the life a young, black, single mom would be and what she was capable of accomplishing. In her 40's, she went back to school for her GED and was crowned the valedictorian after receiving her bachelor's degree. The degree opened a door that she not only loved but excelled in for several years. She was a passionate community Paralegal helping people that were afraid of losing their homes, people with little resources, and people that needed someone to fight for their cause. She went to court day after day defending the underdog.

Venus excelled and remained in this field until her health no longer allowed her to continue to work. Again, she defied the odds, she returned to work, on a part-time basis for an extended period and eventually had to stop working and move in with Ty and Syeeda.

Venus was always opinionated and feisty, even during her illness. She loved to talk with people and had a deep sense of caring, sympathy, and devotion for all. Although Venus was very honest when she had conversations with you, she was a loyal person; if she allowed you into her love circle there was nothing that Venus wouldn't do for you.

She carried that fervor into her love for God as she grew to realize her need for the Lord Jesus Christ while listening to a sermon by Andrew Murry that gripped her heart and changed her life. She began to spend her time reading her Bible and listening to good bible teaching like Joel Olstein, TD Jakes, and sharing with others the importance of having a relationship with God.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving son Tyler, (Syeeda), her grandson Tyler Myles (Keisha): two great grandsons, Aiden and Adonis, her brother Benjamin (Baltimore, MD) and her sister, Valencia (Martin) Budd (Webster, Texas).

Dear Venus, our hearts are heavy and grieving now, because of how much we loved and were loved by you and now you are gone. You made our lives full and complete and will be missed not just a day or year, but forever. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. Love, Ben and Yency
