Legacy of Life

Sherman Roosevelt Martin slipped quietly away on

October 15, 2023. Sherman was born September 21, 1955

to the late Ellen Miller and Roosevelt Martin in Roanoke,

Virginia.

Sherman, affectionately called "Pete", grew up in

Hampton, Virginia. After relocating from Roanoke,

Virginia to Hampton with his mom and nine siblings in

the early sixties.

Sherman met and married Charline Bass in the early

80's and to that union they had two children.

Sherman and Charline, his wife relocated to

Philadelphia, PA in the late 80's, where he worked as a

painter by trade.

Sherman leaves to cherish his memories[ one

daughter, Taisha S. Martin of Philadelphia, PA; three

sons, Sherman R. Martin Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Sterling

Davis and Sherman Davis both of Washington, DC; wife,

Charline Bass and kids who were by his side until death;

five sisters, Elaine (Roland) Anderson, Mary (Thomas)

Bryant, Linda Copeland, Sheila (Chilaire) Morinere and

Phyllis Powell; two brothers, Kenneth (Judy) Martin and

Phillip Martin; one sister, Janie Blakeney; one brother,

Sterling Miler, who preceded him in death; six

grandchildren, two aunts, Bernice (Thomas) Smith of

Roanoke, VA and Carline (Michael) Stine of California;

and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
