DR. SAMUEL PHILLIP WYCHE III, born May 17, 1982 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was the second child born to the late Roxianne Wilson Wyche and Dr. Samuel P. Wyche, Jr. He was preceded in birth by his sister, Kristy Elizabeth Wyche, who passed at age five, and succeeded in birth by his sister Erin Elizabeth Wyche, who passed at age 28. After Dr. Samuel P. Wyche Jr. remarried in 1995, Sam's family grew to include his second mother, Dr. Leslie A. Brown-Wyche. His family blossomed further with the births of his younger brother and sister, Kyle Allen and Chelsea Frances.

As a child, Sam was surrounded by the love of not only his immediate family, but also his grandparents, Frances and Samuel P. Wyche, Sr., Elizabeth and James Wilson, and Kenneth and Betty Brown, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His primary interest included reptiles and other pets: a caiman, ball python, African bull frog, chameleon, gecko, tortoise (Andi), and Huskie (Ceasar). A multitude of other interests were comic books, transformers, model cars, baseball cards, reading, gardening, long distance running, and foraging for wild mushrooms. Sam was a talented artist – media included digital art, charcoal, pastel, oil and acrylic. And finally, Sam was a master amateur chef and loved to cook, creating new and interesting dishes.

Sam graduated from Springfield Township High School, Montgomery County in 2000. In school Sam received a varsity letter in football. He was involved with his school community as a "peer helper" for all 4 years, and a member of Model UN. He had a plethora of friends ranging from the athletes, to the "brainy" kids, to the artists. Outside of school, Sam was a member of Jack and Jill of America Inc, Montgomery County PA chapter.

Sam then went on to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta, graduating with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry in 2004. There he developed some deep, lasting friendships, many of which continued well into adulthood. During the college years he spent a summer doing research in neurobiology at Yale University. He also traveled to Brazil – which was one of his longtime desires.

After Morehouse, Sam attended Temple University Medical School, graduating with his doctorate in 2008. During this time he met Gladys Varela from Puerto Rico, whom he married November 20, 2010. They then moved to Boston, where Sam began his residency at Brigham and Women's hospital as part of Harvard University medical system, in the field of pathology.

Sam unfortunately suffered from a chronic illness which necessitated he leave his residency prematurely. He then moved back to Philadelphia, where he continued to try to work through his illness with the help of his family and friends. He built new friendships, while maintaining old ones, and built a community of others with a wide variety of educational backgrounds who suffered in a similar way. He used his medical knowledge to often aid those in his community who perhaps did not have access to the medical system. While doing so, Sam met his current partner Theresa Santa, who also struggled in a similar manner. They met in 2018 and remained a loving couple until his untimely passing.

Sam is survived by his parents, Sam and Leslie, brother Kyle, sister Chelsea, grandmother Betty, niece Roxianne, and multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends

Sam will be sorely missed and remembered as a fun-loving, friendly, inquisitive, deeply caring person who was always doing for others more than for himself.
