MILDRED was born April 28, 1925 in Union, South Carolina to the late Lawrence and Tannie (Jennings) Tucker. She went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2022.

Mildred was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, where she received her diploma from West Philadelphia High School. Soon after graduation, she worked at the hospital at Girard and Corinthian Avenues. After leaving there, she worked at Kings Athletic Sporting Good as a piece worker on Huntington Park from which she retired. Her nephews loved Aunt Mil because she would bring them baseball gloves and balls, basketballs, footballs and other equipment.

Mildred was mother of two children William and Louise. Mildred was a devoted, loving and caring mom.

Mildred loved to travel often going down South and West Virginia, New York, and Las Vegas. Also, she and her sister, Laura went to Spain. She was her traveling buddy.

Mildred loved to cook, especially her sweet potato pie, chitterlings and hog maws. Mildred's home was always open to family and friends.

Mildred was a member of Mt. Olivet Tabernacle Church. She later joined Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 2016, where she belonged until her passing.

Mildred adopted the Butts Family at an early age and was lovingly called Mom Tucker. She was especially close to Mildred (Butts) Byrd. They had a sister and friend relationship.

Mildred was the baby and last of her seven brothers and four sisters.

Mildred leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Ella Louise; eight grandchildren, Ronnie (preceded her in death), Veronica, Kevin, George, Cornell, Laquicha, Lakea and Anthony; eleven great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; her only son, William preceded her in death; also, her daughter-in-law, Tina and adopted granddaughter, Latoya. Special thanks to Home Care Aid, Lisa and her nurse, Jeremiah Toombs, who looked after her during her final month.

MILDRED (MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER)

Her smile can light up a whole room. Her touch was so gentle, she was kind hearted, giving person and not everyone would have the heart she had. She always made sure you ate. No one never left her house without getting a hug or kiss and without hearing her say, I love you. She was amazing and the love of my life. Sometimes we never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory. She came, she saw, she left a legacy.
