Mark Matthews affectionately called Prince Markie D was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania November 2, 1960 to the late Ellen Matthews & John Herny Matthews. Mark was schooled by the Philadelphia public school system. Being the independent thinker that he was he knew there was something else he should be doing. He entered the Army National Reserve at the age of 19 where he served for six years as an infantry. Mark was our fearless soldier in the face of danger but also loving and caring to his family. He will forever be our pillar of strength. Mark's pride and joy was his family. You would always find him around his family members and sure to find him at his sister's houses helping out. It was a know fact of how much Mark cherished his kids and always talked about his grandkids. He always took pride in teaching his nephews how to be protectors while having fun loving nicknames for them Casey Erkman, Antwyne Tywne, Richard Slick Rick, Derrick Rockhead & Jeffery Jr. Jeff and the girls were always his sugar lump plumpies. He was the life of every family affair with a smile on his face and a plate stacked with food cause he loved to eat. If the food wasn't to his liking he was quick to call it garbage. He was sure to be the one cracking jokes and keeping us laughing. And if he didn't get his way you would surely to hear about it. Proceeding him in death: his mother Ellen Matthews, father "Tang" John Herny Matthews and brother Reggie Goodman.

He leaves to cherish his memories son Mark Matthews Jr., daughters, Shynita & Shannise Matthews, grandsons Kasim Thomas, Jamar Swain Jr. & Major Hoggard, grand-daughters Sanaa Cue & Mecca Hoggard, Brothers Gary Goodman, & Larry Goodman (Rose), sisters Joann Matthews, Florina Konce (Jeffery Sr.) & Michelle Matthews along with a host of nieces, nephews, & cousins.
