Katie
Echols
Oct 4, 1946 — Sep 4, 2022
MS. KATIE ECHOLS was born in Bartow, Jefferson County, Georgia on October 4, 1946, to the late Jimmy Lee Jones and Mollie Jordan Jones. Katie was one of ten children, seven of whom predeceased her. She moved to Philadelphia when she was seven years old and was raised by Beman Knight (aka Pop) and Neppie Knight (grandparents).
Katie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member at New Thankful Baptist Church where she served as a Junior Usher, Choir member and taught Sunday school. In her later years, Katie transitioned from New Thankful Church to Saint Cyprian Catholic Church of Philadelphia, where she served as a Eucharist Minister (assisted in distribution of Holy Communion to the congregation) on every Sunday.
Katie started her working journey after graduating from high school at Sears Roebuck as a Data Entry cataloger for over twenty five years until the company faced out her department. After Katie started working at Sears, she met Wallace T. Echols and was married in 1965. To this union, one child was born Wallace T. Echols, Jr. Before retiring in 2012, Katie worked as an Administrative Assistant in the IT department at Hamilton Lane.
Katie always believed in taking care of her family. She was a dedicated caretaker to her parents, grandparents, brother, cousin and friends throughout her lifetime. Words cannot express the type of person she was, but life speaks for itself through her family and friends.
On Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia Katie Echols entered into eternal rest after her fight with cancer.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Wallace T. Echols, Jr., two sisters, Helen Felton, Hinesville, Georgia and Varis D. Jones, Philadelphia, two grand dogs, Timothy Rolason Echols, deceased July 2002 and Tess Echols and host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives; two special friends Mother, Naomi Swint and Linwood Ingram who assisted in her care.
