Julia Ann Jackson

If someone is reading this out loud than that means I have passed on and I am with my Heavenly Father.

Know that I am at peace.

I was born to the late Cora and Joseph Jenkins in Rocky Mount, North Carolina on April 5, 1930. I grew up in Edgecombe County where I was educated in the public school system. After the passing of my mother, my father bought my sister Mary and me to Camden, New Jersey, where I continued my education. My father later met and married Clara Jenkins. They had three children. Up until my passing Clara and I were close and talked quite often on the telephone.

I held several positions as a housekeeper. I later enrolled in a nurse's aide program, but due to circumstances was unable to complete. I also worked at John Wanamaker Department Store for several years.

I later met and married Mose Jackson. Mose and I had a blended family of eight children. You couldn't introduce the children as half brothers and sisters without them speaking up. To them they were siblings and no other labels were needed. When the children were young, if they saw Mose come around the corner in a new car they knew we were going on a road trip. The kids loved going to North Carolina or Florida to visit family.

Some of my favorite times were the holidays when the children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and others would visit. I loved to cook. Some of my favorite foods were beans of all kinds, cake and ice cream. Sometimes the kids would come back for seconds and it would be gone. I'd tell them "You should have gotten some before it was gone". Once I asked if we had any ice cream in this joint. Janis said "Mom, it's breakfast time". I didn't care what time it was. I could eat me some ice cream. I used to buy the five gallon containers and if you didn't get some I would eat it all.

I was good at growing things in my front yard and I had the backyard looking like a small park. I even had a small park bench. I used to sweep my front sidewalk and by the time I was done I had swept the whole block. I swept so much that the 5100 Market Street block club gave me a big sweeper. One time I was working in my garden and I was supposed to be watching my great grandson Booda. I went to go back in the house and Booda had locked me out. Every time I knocked he would say "Who is it?" This went on for a minute or two until Janis unlocked the door. Janis said, "I should have left you out there!"

As a young child I lost my mother Cora Jenkins and little brother Buddy Jenkins, later my father Joseph Jenkins, brother – in- laws James Morgan and Jentrus Jackson, sister Mary Morgan, daughter Diane Jenkins, husband Mose Jackson, daughter Angela Jackson, son Tony Jenkins, grandson Eric Jenkins. Ruby Jackson passed on September 15, 2023. She was Edward's mother. We had a good relationship and she was always welcome to stay in our home.

I know you will miss me, but remember I am in a better place and with family and friends that have also passed over. Before God called me home I knew my time was short on earth. Janis, that is why when you came in my bedroom and would ask me what I was singing, I was making up songs about my Lord to let him know I loved him and was ready for my journey to Heaven! Even though I tell you not to mourn. I know you will grieve because you love me and will miss me, but think of my good times, especially with you. I leave to mourn my passing. Those who remain and miss me: my children, Edward Jackson (Nancy), Cynthia. Williams (Walter), Cheryl Jackson, Janis Jackson, Eric Jackson (pre-deceased Aya), daughter – in – law, Vanessa Jenkins, stepmother, Claramae Jenkins; brother Charles Jenkins; sister Juanita Jenkins; sister Queanna Jenkins; an enormous amount of grands, great grands, great great grands; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

I won't say goodbye but simply see you later until we meet again.
