On Sunday July 14th, 2024, John Simmons Smith Jr. passed away at the age of 82 years old.
John was born on March 30th, 1942, to the late John and Julia Smith in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
John received his education in the Philadelphia Public School system and earned his high school diploma at Overbrook High School.
John was the oldest of three children and was also known as Butch, and Smooth Smitty.
John worked at Luthers meat packaging company for over 20 years. Later John built a career with Septa, where he also went to school for electrical engineering and made a career in fixing motors for the Septa trains. John became the foreman for the motor shop. John retired from Septa after serving 37 years.
John had the coolest walk you would ever see. He was the master of Ironing; nobody could mess with the creases he would put in his jeans/pants. He was very neat, organized, fun, and loving. John Had the best penmanship. He loved to shadow box and loved to show his three power moves: Jab, Hook, and a Right Cross. John loved playing his lottery numbers and going to the Casino. He also loved the Philadelphia Eagles. John also loved to dance, playing Softball and Recreational pool.
John was apart and a member of the Men's of Millcreek and helped with events and also mentored the children.
He was also a part of a Home group and a sponsor of Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
He was truly loved by all.
John leaves to cherish his son Anthony, his daughters Claudette (Joe, son in Law), Tara, and Farrah. Grandchildren – Janae, Janine, Ciera, Briana, Tayshira, Takiya, and Anwar. Great grandchildren - Taylor, Madison, Journee, Kowe, and Michah Nieces: Donna, Juliette (Juicy), and LaVerne (Porky) Nephews: Fred and Corny He also leaves to cherish a host of family and friends.
John can now be reunited with his Mother: Julia, Father: John, Wife: Shermell, Sisters: Irene (Topsy) and LaVerne (Tootsie), Daughter: Corinda, Nephews: Gordon and Al, Great niece: LaKeisha who all preceded him in death.
