JOHN CARL EVERETT, devoted father, family patriarch and faithful servant of God, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 5th, 2024. Born in Blakely, Georgia, he was the eldest of 18 siblings. He relocated to Philadelphia in the 1940's and married Mary Everett (nee Russell) in 1949. John entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.

Among his many occupations was a tailoring business, but he eventually went to work for the Water Department of the City of Philadelphia. As an adult, John completed an Associate's degree in business management at St. Joseph's University. His work as a dedicated union representative eventually earned him the elected position of Business Agent for the Water Department of the City of Philadelphia, from which he retired. He was also a retired 33rd degree Mason, a faithful member of Composite Lodge 121 and numerous others. John joined First Corinthian Baptist Church in the 1960's under Pastor J.W. Thomas, and has served in many capacities over the years such as Chair of the Trustee Board, President of the Senior Usher Board, Sunday School teacher, and Treasurer.

The father of 8 children, he constantly reminded us that no matter what we did, do it to the best of our ability, to honor God in all things, and to never bring disgrace to the Everett name.

John Everett was the oldest living family member representing five generations: himself, eight children, eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great grandchildren. He is survived by eight siblings: Samuel, Nadine, Jimmy, Richard, Thelma, Eddie Mae, Laura and Jean. Eight children: John, Jr., Audrey, Janet, Patricia, Leonard, Ricardo, Warren and Deborah. Eight grandchildren: Sonya, Ernest, Daniel, Michelle, Carmen, Dominique, Veronica, Alia and predeceased by a grandson, Derrick. He is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and long-time companion, Ms. Mattie Wade.
