Jean
Robbins
Sep 2, 1936 — Oct 12, 2022
JEAN FORTUNE ROBBINS was born on September 2, 1936, the second child born to the late John Nelson Fortune Jr. and Gladys Alma Williams-Fortune at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Jeanie, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, received her education in the public school system of Philadelphia. She graduated at the top of her class from Dobbins Vocational School, majoring in cosmetology. Jeanie worked various jobs including beautician, librarian, substitute teacher, and mostly importantly, homemaker.
As a young adult Jeanie accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Rev Harold O. Davis, and became affiliated with Cornerstone Baptist Church where she served on the Youth Guidance Council. She met and married Gilbert Edward Robbins Sr. They shared 42 years together before her husband passed away in 2005. Jean and Gilbert were blessed with four children: Gilbert Eric Robbins, Jr., Kyle Edward Robbins, Dr. Valerie Dianne Robbins-Acker, and Brian Jeffery Robbins. After marriage she became affiliated with St. Carthage Catholic Church after enrolling her sons there in school. Affectionately called "Wife" by her husband and "Lady" by her children, Jeanie was a kind and compassionate person with an intelligent and sharp wit. She helped many and was a mother to many. An ardent sports fan, she was a supporter of the Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers.
Jeanie survived breast cancer, open heart surgery, and other illnesses. Devoted mother, sister, and friend, she departed this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.
She leaves in God's care and to cherish her memory her children, Gilbert Jr., Kyle (Michelle, daughter in law), Valerie (Michael II, son in law), and Brian (Raina, daughter in law); two sisters and a brother, Joyce A. Patterson, Denise Gayle Matthews, and Dan Gary Fortune (Cardelia); six grandchildren, Nia Jean Acker, Michael David Acker III, Kayla Ann Acker, Jalen Michael Acker, Rorie Bush, and Brian Jacob Robbins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
