HOWARD F. PATTON JR. was born on April 14, 1936 the third child and first son of the late Howard F. Patton Sr. and Ruth Morris Patton in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended Camden High School and joined the United States Air Force upon graduation. He sang with a band while in the Air Force, covering many Frank Sinatra songs. He received an honorable discharge in 1960.

Howard graduated from the Philadelphia Police Academy in September 1960 and in October that same year, he married the love of his life, Susan Primus who preceded him in death. From their 40-year union are three children, Howard Gregory, Donna Lynn and Sharon Frances.

Howard was a loving husband, a great father, uncle, son, and friend to many. He was a great provider and was never hesitant to help others. He truly loved his wife and his family Howard's law enforcement career was an impressive one. He worked in various units in the Philadelphia Police Department, rising through the ranks to that of Captain ,assigned command of the 14th District. He retired in 1981 to become part of the newly created SEPTA Transit Police Department, retiring from there as Chief of Police. During his career, Howard received many accolades for his work and affiliation with several community organizations but was particularly proud of his work as a former president of the Oak Lane Youth Association. His other affiliations include the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, Guardian Civic League, NAACP.

Affectionately known as Frank, he was an avid collector of art, lover of music, had a keen eye for design, and was always ready with sage advice. And a joke. Always a joke. And he enjoyed the company of his friends.

Our patriarch leaves to mourn his passing: son, Howard; daughters, Donna and Sharon; grandchildren, Ashton and Chase; sister, Ursula Temple; an aunt, whom he totally adored, Veronica Morris; sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Renee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
