Obituary

A harvest of treasured memories will be constantly in our hearts and our minds for our dear and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, Geneva J. Phillips. At the age of 94, her beloved fight ended on this earth, Thursday evening, on July 31, 2025 at her home surrounded by the love of the caregiver and Jeneen Phillips (granddaughter).

Geneva was born on June 13, 1931, to Alexander and Adelle Alston. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior earlier in life and attended Calvary Baptist Church for many years.

Mrs. Phillips was married to the late Denery Phillips Sr. and to this union seven children were born, two of whom preceded her in death, Lawrence Phillips and James "Jimmy" Alston.

Geneva, affectionately known as "Mom and Grandmom," had an extraordinary gift for nurturing deep lasting relationships with those around her. Her home was always open, serving as a gathering place for family, friends, and neighbors… good meals, laughter, and memories were made. To know her, was to love her. She was a lovable character, earnest and zealous in her support to her family.

One of Mom's fondest memories was visiting with Anthony Brown (great-grandson) and holding baby Junnah (great-great-grandson) during her last days. It was almost as one life ends another begins. Her journey here is complete. She will be deeply missed but not forgotten, as her stories and love continue in each of us and will never fade.

She was preceded in death by: siblings, William Alston, Alexander (Mary) Alston Jr., Sandra (Clarence) Swinson, Bernilee Garrett, and Delores Alston; and three grandchildren, Keith Roselle, Corey Phillips, and Keith Allen Jr.

Left to cherish her loving memories are: three daughters, Linda (Herman) Fisher, Alberta (Keith) Allen, and Wanda (Keith) Roselle; two sons, Denery (Pearly) Phillips Jr., and John (Robbin) Phillips; outstanding caregivers; beloved honorary grandchildren Barry and Irene Bennett; devoted friend Annie Graham, and Ann Frien; fourteen grandchildren, Larry Durell, Richard Fisher, Lakisha Gordon, Jeneen Phillips, Chas Allen, Jasmine Allen, Edgar Phillips, Anthony Roselle, Attice Whiters, Relena Perdue, Camille Lawson, Jenise Drayton, Gina Phillips, and Denery Phillips III; twenty-three great-grandchildren; twenty great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.
