EMMA LOUISE SMITH-AKINS was born on May 2, 1932 to the late Reverend Clarence C. Randolph and Margarer Lydia Smith Randolph in Chester PA. She was the second of 9 children born to her family. Emma's life and legacy lasted 90 years until 2a.m. on August 4, 2022 God almighty caller her home to be at rest from all her labor. Emma spent most of her life in Chester county, and graduated from the Delaware County school system. Her career began as a housekeeper, and later becoming a supervisor for the Elway Medical Production Company where she retired. A spiritual journey that lasted throughout Emma's lifetime was instilled by both her parents who graciously provided for her, and nurtured her in the Lord. Raised as a Methodist preacher's daughter Emma was taught biblical principles and doctrine as she shared many days in worship with her parents. Undoubtedly, she was saved. In 1948 Emma gave birth to a son (Stanley Bernard Randolph), and two years later (Stephanie Roberta Robbins) was born in 1950. Emma's children meant the world to her, and she cherished life as a mother to them. A passionate love Emma had for children has been an inspiration, and to this family, five children were added. Emerson, Linda, Randy, Walter, and Paula Studeven had become the joy of her life.! Later in 1958 Emma met Mr. Jethro (Jim) Akins who'd become the love of her life, and shared time and space with. Jethro had a son (Jethro Jr.) and Gary Akins was adopted by Jethro. Emma and Jim cherished their parentage of both, and neither was any different than the other. She lived, she loved, and she lived! Emma's life was centered around being the best parent she could be as a result of love and care she provided to her children. Sharing time, sharing space with each one of them. Emma love to bowl, and had become one of the greatest African American women to set the record as a (Scratch Bowler). She ranked as a top score bowler above the scores of men in the league. Emma would clean their pockets when they dared her or challenged her skills. Her participation in the bowling league was reputable on the local and national platforms. Emma loved baseball as a pass time hobby. Her favorite team was the New York Mets. Philly was her home team, but the Mets exceeded her interest as a sports fan. She loved to play Bingo and would engage game where she would win prizes and all sorts of household appliances, an tapestries. Emma traveled the distance as a bowler, and also engaged other events of her interest. Enjoying people, loving events, and sharing time and space. She lived, she loved, and she lived! Family life was treasured by Emma. She loved to be with her family where she would share happy moments with her two sisters Amy and Charlotte. The three of them shared similarities by naming their daughters after one another. (Stephanie, and Paula). One son was named after his cousin by middle name. Emma also spent time with her brothers. Raymond, Junie, Charles, James. William, and Orville. She also shared time with close and extended family in the Chester and Philadelphia area. Emma's memory and legacy will linger on the hearts and lives of those who knew her and appreciated that wonderful smile she had. She leaves to cherish her memory, 5 children. Stanley B. Randolph (Theresa) Stephanie Robbins, Linda Studeven-Cole (Gregory) Walter Studeven (Brenda) and Gary Akins. Three children preceded Emma in death. Randy, Paula and Emerson Studeven. Emma was also preceded in death by four brothers. (Raymond, Charles, Clarence, and Orville). Lastly her youngest sister Amy Williams. 23 Grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
