A Life of Integrity, Leadership and Character - Planted Seeds and Legacy

In the company of family, and in a peaceful manner, God told his beloved son, Elvis Mason Dubois Malone - Well done, thy good and faithful servant!  With God's grace and mercy, Elvis closed his eyes to rest in eternity, on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

Born on December 2, 1940, in Wilson, Arkansas also known as Carlson Lake, Elvis was the fourth son, born to the late Prettis Malone, Sr. and Elmira Sheppard-Malone. Elvis attended Keiser Elementary School and then Wilson Trade High School. He has never been an average person, not even as a kid. Being raised in the south and the middle child, he often was the one who looked out for his younger brothers and only sister. Elvis found enjoyment in playing Horseshoes or Croquet, fishing with his siblings, riding the tractor, playing soldier (in which he actually shot himself in the shoulder). As a teenager, Elvis was one of the top baseball pitchers in the community, until he became sick with Rheumatic Fever which affected his ability to walk. In fact, he spent a year in a rehabilitation center learning how to walk again.  Even with challenges, Elvis never let anything hinder his joy and ability to move forward. As Elvis regained his strength he also had a new look on life - to live it to its fullest. He loved to travel, visit family and friends, buy new suits/shoes and take risks. Elvis did not think he would make it to be a grandfather - to anyone, but God clearly had other plans for him.

Man of Faith

Elvis accepted Christ at an early age, joining Missionary Baptist Church and being baptized by Rev. W. Amos, in Arkansas.  He attended church with his mother and siblings every Sunday establishing a spirit of service. Elvis' unwavering faith led him to become a devoted ordained deacon, September 21, 1975, and later the Chairman of the Board of Deacons for eight years, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, in SouthWest Philadelphia.  He taught Sunday School and served as the assigned deacon for the New Members Friends.  Being "of good rapport, full of spirit and wisdom"  Elvis served the Lord with excellence in many capacities and showed everyone he encountered, how you can love the Lord and still be involved in the community.

Actively Engaged Across Diverse Organizations

Elvis was an important figure in his community and was highly respected.. You could expect to see him in any part of Philly positively supporting things he was passionate about. Elvis canvassed the region recruiting people of all ages to join the church, play baseball and basketball, support public schools and vote in political elections. With the help of others, Elvis led the Kingsessing Recreation Center's baseball team to the City Championship (in the 70s). He was a member of the Board of Directors for Mercy Douglass Human Services Corporation (MDHSC) since 1977; and a member of the George T. Cornish American Legion Post 292. The Department of Housing and Urban Development gave approval for MDHSC to dedicate a computer lab located at Mercy Douglass Sansom House to be named "The Elvis Malone Neighborhood Network Center" in honor of him. Elvis was also a board member of the Head Start Programs of North and South Philadelphia.  He served as a member of the 51st Ward Democratic Executive Committee Division 9, explaining voting and politics with confidence. Elvis was the block captain of the 5300 block of Reinhard Street for many years, always organizing street cleanings and disseminating information to residents fostering neighborhood safety and beautification to an ever changing environment.  There are countless awards and honors Elvis received from participating in Home & School Associations at B.B. Comegys and Reynolds Elementary Schools as well as Carver High School of Engineering and Science.

Arduous Worker -  Elvis knew how to make a dollar out of 15cents

Elvis' plan was to attend medical school after graduating from high school, so he enrolled in Elkhart University, in Indiana. He became a certified X-ray technician in1960. However, Elvis ended up following in the footsteps of his brothers, and enlisted in the United States Air Force in March of 1961. He diligently worked in telecommunications, Army Air Forces (AAF) Teletype. This department housed machines that were critical for transmitting highly classified intelligence, weather data, and operational flight orders across a global command network. This act of bravery allowed him to travel to many places, being stationed in Nebraska, Texas, Okinawa, Japan and Fairbanks, Alaska. Elvis, ended his military career being honorably discharged in 1968. Shortly afterwards, he relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania following his eldest brother, Bobby. Being a man who believed in making honest money and hard work, Elvis started working at New York Life Insurance Company (Advanced Underwriting) as a licensed insurance agent. In 1991, Elvis became certified as a Registered Building Service Manager. He worked as a project and district manager for a well known janitorial company. Elvis did the hiring, training, and supervising of employees to provide security, transportation, maintenance and janitorial services while developing bids and negotiating million dollar contracts. Making this company the first company of color to obtain a contract with a major airline. Elvis then ventured off to start his own janitorial business, Superior Building Services, hiring many people from the neighborhood. While working, Elvis attended Antioch University and The University of Pennsylvania to continue his education.

Family Man

Elvis often strategically worked nights and/or third shifts to ensure his family were cared for in the mornings and over the course of the day.  His family meant the world to him. Elvis is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 60+ years, Viola Jackson Malone. Over time they have made so many precious memories to include travelling all over the world.

Elvis was preceded in death by his siblings: Prettis Jr., Lee, and Johnny. The siblings he leaves to cherish his memory are Bobby T., Merlyn and James (Janice),

Affectionately known as Pop, Pop-Pop, G-pop and Mr. E, he is leaving many sayings/ memories with:

His Bonus Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren (Zyla Amor and Mason Adan), cousins, nieces, and nephews, and kids who adopted him from the community.

His God Children:

Brie Gaines, Tylissa Keyser, Porfirio and Camilo Medina, Riley Nollie (Lisa), Fred Waller, Angela White,

Everyone knew the way to pop's heart was playing the Blues, bringing a Snickers and a cold Pepsi.

There are countless friends all over the world that have many memories to cherish of Elvis as well.
