His Story

On April 5, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, I received my wings, So I leave you now with my HISTORY.

I, DEREK ANTONIO HANTON, was born on December 11, 1956 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Curtis Percy Hanton and the late Madeline LuLu Hanton.

I was the fourth oldest in this union of 13. Five of my siblings have preceded me in death.

I was affectionately called "Tone" or "Lavender" and received my education in the Philadelphia Public School System. Graduated from West Philadelphia High School. Worked various jobs Including Meals on Wheels, Dry Cleaning (Emil & Pity) and HGO until I found my passion at Burns Mechanical. Drove CDL trucks (going through the hood beeping the horn) until my retirement December 2019. I was at my best at family functions, clowning loved ones, always the life of the party savoring each moment which left you so many joyous memories. Playing basketball, hunting, and fishing were my favorite hobbies.

After a great catch you would find me on the grill, stuffing fish which always was a tasty treat (those were the days). I travelled near and far with my wife, children, family, or friends beside me enjoying sights, good food and new adventures along the way. I will always be a member of the HUB Coalition as we are family. Although not physically in the pack I remain in your hearts as we always had each other's back. I was a force to be reckoned with and you will never forget so spread the love continue to laugh, smile, party and have one for me. ONE HUB ONE LOVE PEACE. I have enjoyed my time throughout the years, so all family, friends and acquaintances let others know the precious times we shared.

I leave my family to cherish memories we shared, starting with my loving wife, always by my side, Valerie Jackson-Hanton, my children Nicole, LaTasha, Vincent, LaTonah, Jarrell, Alisha, Derek, William and Antonio, my siblings Lydia, Alan, Dwaine, Roderick, Dorothy (Karl), Keith, Nancy, a special brother for life Sam, grandchildren Dante, Najiah, Nakayla, Michael, Janelle, Shiameria, Regan, Cruise, Giovanni, Ahmir, Ahzir, Zuri and Iz'Raya.

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family the Geigers and friends. This was my story.
