Obituary

On December 29th, 2023, DELORES E. FERGUSON, 85 transitioned peacefully at her home in West Philadelphia. Delores was the daughter of the late Albert Miller and Joereather Maloy. She was born in Philadelphia on March 29th, 1938. Delores was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from Overbrook High School. After graduation she started to work at Pennsylvania Hospital and eventually became the supervisor of the Telephone Exchange Department. She worked for the hospital for over 50 years. Delores married Leonard Ferguson Sr. on April 9th, 1955. He preceded her in death December of 2022. From this union two son's were born, Leonard Jr. & Michael Sr. As a wonderful mother she cherished her son's accomplishments. She was proud that both of her son's graduated college, Leonard Jr. from Lincoln University, PA and Michael from Morgan State University. She was also proud that both of her son's were members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Their son Ronald Alan Ferguson also preceded her in death. Delores became a member of Ward A.M.E. Church in the early 1950's. She served on the following ministries: Ward Emmanuel Gospel & Combined Choirs, Member of the Council of Stewards & Trustees serving as a Trustee, Member of Stewardship & Finance Committee, Chair of Fundraising Committee, Chair of the Building Fund Committee and member of the A.M.E. Mass Choir. Delores became a member of Queen Alpha Chapter No.93, Order of Eastern Star Inc., PHA, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in January of 1993. She was the Matriarch of her class known as the 'Harriet Chapman Class' of Queen Alpha Chapter No.93. She served in positions of Marshall of the West & East as well as assistant secretary. She was a faithful member of the Roy E. Custis Scholarship Committee. She kept the class in line by collecting money to pay for chapter ads as well as sending floral arrangements to deceased members' families. Delores was the President of the 'Vogetes Social Club' and was active in their sponsorship of numerous ski trips and cruises throughout the Caribbean. Delores was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Sr., two sons; Leonard Ferguson Jr., Michael Ferguson Sr., and brother Theodore (Skeet) Maloy. Delores leaves to mourn: five grandsons; Ronald Jr., Michael Jr. (Stephanie), Atiba, Lateef (Amirah), Jerel (Astrid), ten great grandchildren; Carter, Cameron, Amir, Samir, Maya, Michael, Marley, Asa, Amari, Alonzo, Mason, four nieces; Kathleen, Charmaine, Karen, Angela, Nephew; Theodore Jr, Cousin; Regina Dudley, and her life long friend; Carol Miller, and so many friends sharing in this heartfelt loss.
