The Obituary

DAVID JAMES MCFADDEN, JR. lovingly known as "Shrimp Boat" was Born Oct 3, 1952, to the late David James McFadden, Sr. & Margaret McFadden, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Boat was blessed with two mother's the late Margaret McFadden and Rosa Mae Fountain his adopted mother.

The Lord blessed Boat for 70 years to be with family and friends before calling him to his eternal home on Tuesday, May 8, 2023, in his home surrounded by family.

Boat was educated in the Philadelphia School System, slated to graduate Thomas A. Edison Senior High School Class of 1970. Following his brother Carleton Nathaniel and having an ardent desire to serve, Boat left school to join the United States Marine Corps (USMC). To qualify for enlistment, he lied about his age and at the age of fifteen, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (USMC). He turned sixteen while serving in Vietnam fighting with the First Battalion, 26th Marines on an 11-month tour. He went on to become a decorated war veteran, serving alongside other brave men such as his good friend the late Sargent James Bynum of North Philadelphia. In the end Boat served three eleven-month tours, thirty-three months in total and was honorably discharged.

Following a U.S. Hospital Corps assignment, encouraged by his adopted Mother Rose not to return to a fourth tour of duty, Boat returned home to try-out civilian life. He then studied at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduating in the Veterans Upwards Bound Program, Class of 1992.

Boat's loves are without mention the Philadelphia Eagles, (nobody could tell him anything about his Eagles), participating in Wheelchair Games, playing Basketball, Mahjong, Cooking, Going to Car Shows and Car Racing, Restoring Homes, Volunteering, Fantasy Football, Sightseeing, watching American Football, playing Arcade Games, Working out, Animal Rescue, playing Video Games, Listening to Music, Napping, Card Games, and spending time with friends and family, lovingly he would talk to you for hours about any and everything.

Boat loved his city, and his family was especially important to him, he cherished every moment with them.

Preceded in death by four brothers, Sidney McFadden, Robert L. Fountain, Gregory (P-Nut) McFadden, Carleton (Nathaniel) Jones, and sister Dianna McFadden.

He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife Diane Huggins-McFadden of Drexel Hill, PA by way of Philadelphia, PA. His four sons David James McFadden III, (Shyreeta), Nathaniel James McFadden, William Keith McFadden, Joseph Rodney Bolden, & one daughter Rashida Graham. His Mother-in-law Vivian Huggins, his remaining brothers Kevin A. Fountain (Latrele) nee Kimpson of Columbia, SC, & Sa'id Hunafa, (Salima) of Decatur, GA. His Sisters, Gloria Jean Blair of Philadelphia, PA, Minister Martina Gunter of Middletown, DE, Rosalin H. Wright of Philadelphia, PA, La'Ronica L. Fountain, of Philadelphia, PA & Dr. Zelda Carter (Dr. Anthony). One Uncle, Jacob McFadden of New Jersey; Grandchildren, Steven Huggins, Jr., Nuri Rae McFadden and several more Granddaughters respectfully not listed by name and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
