Obituary

Charlie Belle Godley Graham was born on September 12, 1935, to the late Augustus Cornelius Godley and Liddie Coward Godley in Washington, North Carolina. She was one of eight children in which she was the youngest of three girls. Belle, was preceded in death by five brothers Augustus "Neb" Jr., William "Bea" Arthur, Lee Ardies, Robert "Bob" Louis, Lorenza Godley, and one sister Clara Langley. Belle was educated in the North Carolina School System. She enjoyed learning and her favorite subject was math. While attending PS Jones High School, Belle met her high school sweetheart, and on July 24, 1954, she married the late Alfred Graham. This union was blessed with two sons, Alfred G. Graham, and Alton R. Graham. Belle is now reunited with her husband after suffering a brief illness, on January 30, 2022. God in His infinite wisdom, took Charlie affectionately known as "Belle" to be with Him in her eternal resting place. In 1960, Belle and her husband relocated from North Carolina, to Philadelphia, PA. From there, she worked several jobs until she became an employee with Core States Bank where she worked until she retired. Belle accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and she often talked about how her mother said "she was her peculiar child". In Belle's later years, her love for the Lord inspired her to attend Bethlehem School of the Bible for three years. She furthered her studies and attended Jameson School of Ministry where she received her Bachelors of Arts in Biblical Theology in 1998, her Masters in Biblical Theology in 2000; and in June of 2002, she received her Doctorate in Theology. Once completed, Belle was proud of her accomplishments, and she was known as "Dr. G". Everyone who knew Belle, knew she was also a strong Prayer Warrior. She knew the Lord as her personal Savior, Jesus the Christ. Her favorite scriptures were Roman 8:28 and Jeremiah 33:3 – In the time of trouble, she would encourage anyone to call God's telephone number (Jeremiah 33:3) and would give it out anytime she felt necessary. For fun, Belle loved to cook, and the holidays were a joy to her. She loved driving her "Jaq", shopping, meeting new people, and telling them about God. She was a person that never had a problem speaking her mind--emphasizing on the things she liked or disliked. She had no problem telling you when you were right or wrong. To date, Belle leaves to cherish her memories: two devoted sons, Alfred Gutierrez (Gilda) and Alton Ray (Theresa), six grandchildren: Shakhanda, Shalisha, Christopher, Gianna, Qyuina, Dion. Seven great-grandchildren, one sister Jessie Harding – Boston, MA., one sister-in-law: Vera Godley, Washington N.C., A special nephew: Roy Langley; A host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. To God be the Glory for a life well lived!
