Charles B. Williams was born on June 1, 1952 in Philadelphia to Mary L. and Oliver D. Williams. As a youth, he attended church at 59th St. Baptist Church and graduated from Andrew Hamilton Elementary and William Sayre Junior High. He was also a proud Speedboy, graduating from West Philadelphia High in 1969, just before his 17th birthday.

Following high school, Charles completed coursework at Maryland and Temple. During these years, he met Evon Golphin, who he married on June 19, 1976. Though they later divorced, they produced two children, Kahlil and Imani, who he loved and cherished. Throughout their childhood, he was an active father and community servant, serving as a Cub Scouts den leader, a church deacon, and as a coach to their various sports teams. He was extremely generous with his time and made every effort to attend their extracurricular activities, even when those events were hundreds of miles away. While in attendance, he would provide unsolicited coaching to his children (and their teammates) from the stands, which went largely unheeded.

In 1978, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he had a distinguished 20-year career, working in missile maintenance and quality assurance. His service took him far away from Philadelphia, including to Grand Forks A.F.B. in North Dakota; Vandenberg A.F.B. in California; Whiteman A.F.B. in Missouri, and, finally, F.E. Warren A.F.B. in Wyoming. During his time in the military, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and received numerous awards and commendations for his leadership and excellence in his field.

After retiring from the Air Force, Charles moved back to the Philadelphia area to be closer to family, friends, and his Philadelphia sports teams. He continued his work mentoring and coaching kids while working at St. Gabriel's Hall in Audubon, PA. He also found time to cheer on the Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies, including in person at Game 5 of the 2008 World Series. In addition to being an avid Philly sports fan, he was a terrific cook and host, a lover of all kinds of music, a deep reader and thinker, and enjoyed puzzles, trivia, and texting his children Bible verses without context. He also spent lots of time with family, including with his eldest sister, Marie Caliman, his niece, Danyel Caliman and her husband, Herb Allen, and his nephew, Butch Caliman, as well as their extended families.

Charles departed this life on April 10, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Esther Wright and his younger brother Anthony Williams. He is survived by his children, Kahlil and Imani, his sister Marie and her children, Danyel and Butch, his daughter-in-law, Ashley Bryant, his grandchildren, Riley and Ellison Williams, and a host of cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
