Carson Cooper was born on February 15, 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late William Cooper and Maggie Isaac Singleton. On the morning of June 9, 2026, Carson peacefully departed this life after courageously battling serious health issues. He was 69 years old.

Carson was the fourth oldest of nine children. He leaves to treasure his memory, in order of age, Charles Isaac, Michelle Womack, Barry Cooper, Verna Cooper, Yusef Cooper, Mel Singleton, Greg Singleton, and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Cooper Dixion, who passed away on January 11, 2005.

Carson's life journey was not without its struggles. Born with significant cognitive and learning challenges, he faced many hardships that shaped the path of his life. At times, those burdens led him away from structure and stability. Carson never wanted to be defined by a learning disability. He didn't want to be in classrooms with other people who had learning challenges.  So, Carson chose to run.

For long periods in his life, he chose to sleep in abandoned houses to avoid the rules of Mom's house. He did these things in search of acceptance, freedom, and moments of joy in the best way he knew how. Though his road was often difficult, Carson's story is also one of deep humanity, perseverance, and the longing we all share to be understood, loved, and to find peace.

Those who truly knew Carson remember a humble, warm, and gentle spirit who loved to laugh and bring joy to those around him. His smile and infectious laughter could brighten a room, and his presence left a lasting impression on many. Carson was truly a gentle giant with a tender heart. Even the staff at Roosevelt Rehab, where he lived until his passing, spoke lovingly of him and shared how much they enjoyed his company. He was cared for deeply and will be remembered with affection by all whose lives he touched.

We thank God that, although Carson's life held many challenges, his passing was peaceful. We take comfort in knowing that he is now at rest.  He is in the "Land of No More". No more running; no more embarrassment; no more shame, no more struggle, no more pain.

As we remember Carson, may we hold close the grace, humility, and quiet strength that marked his life. Proverbs 3:34 reminds us that God, "Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor."

May the love of family, the comfort of treasured memories, and the peace of God carry each heart through this time of sorrow. Though Carson is no longer with us in body, his gentle spirit and the love he shared will remain with us always. May we find strength in the promise of God's Word: Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Amen!
