Obituary

On June 18, 2023, Carrie Bond (Beard), 95, departed this life peacefully at her home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Carrie was born September 5, 1927 and attended school in Ashport, Tennessee. She married her husband Thomas Bond Sr. in 1944. She moved to Philadelphia with her children in June of 1960.

She joined Pinn Memorial Baptist Church and then became a member of Ninth Presbyterian Church which later became New Spirit Presbyterian Church. There she ministered by making crafts, handmade cards and other items to encourage and uplift the sick and shut-in members of her community.

She was a hard-working woman who took upon numerous roles to care for her family. She was a sharecropper and also performed domestic work. In 1963 she attended Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) to learn specialized skills in the area of electronics. Consequently, she became a solderer for Jerrold Electronics. She later went on to become employed with Temple University where she retired in 1993.

Carrie was an excellent seamstress and loved to garden. She was handy with interior decorating and had a keen eye for design and creating beautiful things. She also enjoyed reading romance novels when she wasn't caring for her loved ones.

Carrie leaves us to join her parents (Edd and Lula Beard) 8 siblings (Lorraine Williams, Geraldine Davis, Noralee DeBerry, Gladys Reaves, Genevieve Maxwell, Jessie Beard, Eddie Lue Washington and Katylee Merriweather) and her 2 children (Jessie Beard and Larry Milbert Bond).
