Obituary

Mrs. Candace Treadwell Stone-Square, daughter of the late Bernard and Obenda Stone, was born August 28, 1937, in Danville, Virginia. She quietly departed this life Friday, November 21, 2025, at Cadia Rehabilitation Capital. She attended the public schools in Danville, Virginia and upon graduation headed North to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she attended Hahnemann University Nursing School. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and continued her faith walk as a member of Holy Trinity Baptist Church and Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

She was united in holy matrimony to Mezel O. Square where their union produced and added 2 more daughters, (Derry and Dẽ Nita) to their blended family of children (Annette, Mezel, Anthony (deceased), Shirley, Irving, and Sherman). Mezel O. Square preceded her in death on April 20, 1989.

Mrs. Stone-Square was a caring nurse for over 30 years in her profession and took on difficult duties that included being a hospice nurse to infants during the Aids crisis by rocking them until they quietly left this life to transition to little angels in glory. An active member in her community, she felt it not robbery of her time to volunteer throughout the neighborhood and community. She instilled in her children the importance of faith, service, civic engagement, and treating others with love and respect in whatever capacity you are called to serve. "Be of service!"

Although she was preceded in death by other family members including 3 out of 4 of her siblings (Juanita, Bernard, and Lagatha), her legacy will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, surviving sister, Phyllis (Rodney) and a host of family members and friends.

To GOD BE THE GLORY for all he has done. Candace T. Stone-Square heard the Lord and answered the call to come home to receive her crown and wings where she's now flying free.
