A Life of Service, Wisdom, and Love
Bruce J. Mabine, 76, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and the people who meant so much to him. Born on August 29, 1950, in Philadelphia, Bruce was the eldest son of Mary and William Mabine and a proud lifelong South Philadelphian.
Bruce's life was defined by purpose, intellect, service, and an unwavering commitment to others. He was educated in Philadelphia at Julia R. Masterman School and West Philadelphia High School before attending Hampton University, where he graduated with the Class of 1973. He went on to earn his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Temple.
A gifted physician and educator, Bruce dedicated his career not only to caring for his patients, but also to shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. He was deeply respected and admired by his patients, colleagues, residents, medical students, and physician assistants. His commitment to teaching and mentorship was recognized upon his retirement with a Lifetime Teaching Award, honoring his extraordinary contributions as an educator and mentor.
Bruce believed deeply in the importance of service and giving back. A proud Hampton alumnus and fraternity leader, he remained devoted to the university and its students throughout his life. Among his many accomplishments, he helped lead a scholarship campaign that raised nearly $1 million to support Hampton University students—an enduring testament to his generosity and belief in the power of education.
Those who knew Bruce will remember much more than his professional accomplishments. He possessed a brilliant mind, a sharp and wonderfully dry sense of humor, unquestionable integrity, and a compassionate spirit. He had a deep appreciation for music and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was thoughtful, principled, generous, and quietly influential—the kind of person whose presence left an impression long after he had left the room.
Above all, Bruce cherished his family.
He leaves to carry forward his legacy his beloved wife, Dr. Lynda Thoma-Mabine; his children, Kenneth Bruce Mabine and Joanna Camille Mabine; his bonus children, Glenn Buckner, Alysha Green, and Bryan Thomas; extended family; dear friends; colleagues; and his devoted Yorkshire terrier, Nala. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and William Mabine, and his brother, Dwayne.
Bruce's legacy cannot be measured solely by the titles he held, the patients he cared for, or the accomplishments he achieved. It lives in the students he taught, the physicians he mentored, the patients he served, the causes he championed, the family he loved, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
He lived with purpose. He served with integrity. He gave generously. And he loved deeply.
Bruce will be profoundly missed and forever remembered with love, gratitude, and admiration.
