Obituary

Bishop Michael Andrew Clayton, Sr. was born on June 28, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Samuel T. Clayton and the late Beatrice Harrington Clayton. He married the late Cynthia B. Clayton and born to that union were two sons, Michael Andrew Clayton II and Kevin
Christopher Clayton.

Bishop Clayton's extensive educational background led him to serve in various high-level educational capacities in the Philadelphia school system, shaping the minds and futures of countless students and educators. His deep commitment to learning was matched only by his devotion to ministry, as Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior. As Bishop of the Gospel Spreading Church, consisting of 10 church locations, he shepherded his vast congregation with wisdom, compassion, spiritual strength, and an unwavering faith that touched all who sat under his
leadership.

Whether in the classroom or the pulpit, Bishop Clayton led a life of committed service. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his family, church family, and a wide circle of friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.

He leaves to celebrate his legacy and mourn his passing, two (2) sons, Michael Andrew Clayton, II, Esq., and Kevin Christopher Clayton, four (4) brothers, Richard J. Clayton, M.D., Roland L. Clayton (Diane), Nathaniel D. Clayton (Kathleen), and Stephen P. Clayton (Delores), three (3)
sisters-in-law, Ramona E. Clayton (the late Matthew D. Clayton, Esq., brother), Norma B. Clayton (the late Alan C. Clayton, Sr., brother) and Judy Clayton (the late William M. Clayton, brother), six (6) grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was also predeceased by his wife, the late Cynthia B. Clayton and his brothers, the late Dr. Samuel T. Clayton, Sr. and the late Dr. Frederick W. Clayton.

He will be missed but his strong, godly legacy will never be forgotten.
