Biddle Morgan
Caliman
Jul 12, 1931 — Sep 8, 2022
BIDDLE MORGAN CALIMAN was born the third of nine children on July 12, 1931, to the late Noble Rae Caliman and Mary Ellen Warnick Caliman, in Philadelphia, PA.
On Thursday, September 8, 2022, the Lord peacefully called his faithful servant Biddle M. Caliman to his eternal home.
He was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System, graduating from the Overbrook High School in 1951. In addition, he also completed Technical School (Philadelphia Wireless).
Biddle served in the Army of the United States and was honorably discharged in 1953. His tour of duty was in Japan. Upon returning home from the service, he married his childhood sweetheart Shirley L. Blake in 1955. From this union they had three children Bruce, Brett (affectionately known as the "Biddle Boys") and Shayna ("Golden Child"). Biddle was a devoted husband, caring father, loving grandfather, wonderful brother and a dedicated pillar of the community.
In 1960 they purchased the family home at 5638 Baltimore Avenue, which became the safe haven for all family and friends. He was the rock that anyone needed to get through difficult times and was supportive to all. He also had a listening ear for everyone he came in contact with. His mother said of him that he was like an "old shoe", so comfortable to be around. He never complained throughout his illness when his health was declining.
Biddle enjoyed grilling and cooking especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for his family. He was famous for his mac and cheese dish which everyone loved. He also had a passion for music, especially jazz.
He faithfully dedicated his life to servicing the Lord, at The New Spirit Community church. He was elevated to various positions of leadership in the church, as a Trustee and then as an Elder.
Biddle was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his grandson, Bruce Caliman, Jr.; sister, Doris Hubert; his four brothers, Frederick, Noble, Raymond and Robert; and his sister, Nancy Mills.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Bruce, Brett and Shayna; his grandchildren Ashley, Brittany, Bria Brianna, Dawn, Tianna and Robert; great-grandchildren, Bruce, Hudson, Brelynn, Avohn and Imani; his sister, Claire Jones; brother, Albert; sisters-in-law, Carthelia, Marie, Amy and Laura; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Sorrowfully submitted, The Family
