The Obituary

Alice Jeannette "Snookie" Holland-Johnson, daughter of the late Spence Johnson and Alice Holland, was born on March 28,1933 in Philadelphia, PA. She departed at age 90 on February 22, 2024. The eldest of two children, her beloved baby brother Edward Johnson "Bus" Holland preceded her in death.

Alice received her education in the Philadelphia Public School System. To provide for her five children, until she retired in 1996, Snookie went on to work at the Chef Francisco of Pa. Inc. and earned her way through the ranks to become a well-known and respected supervisor for many years. After retirement Alice would beam with pride as she told stories of her days working in the factory and would proudly say that her job "allowed her to educate her children in catholic and private schools and give them everything that they needed".

Alice was known for her caring heart, sense of humor, strong will, and mighty spirit (she was not to be messed with)! She looked forward to spending time with family and friends and hosting the occasional visits she received. Some of her favorite pastimes were cooking, tending to her plants, listening to music, playing solitaire and reading the newspaper from front to back. For her 90th birthday Alice enjoyed a trip to Disney, which was truly a blessing to all.

She was the backbone of her family, certainly the nuts and bolts that held them together. And her memory, goodwill and grit will live on as it has touched so many lives in different ways. Alice was preceded in death by her son Wendell (Valerie) and adopted sister Ora "Ordie". She was the Matriarch of five generations and leaves to recall her legacy: Her four children Sharon, Linda, Kevin, and Kimberly (Michael); Grandchildren Timothy, David, Taisha, Wendell, Tamyka, Latinya, Darin, Ramon, Shante, Kevin, Sade, Kamyah, Kevin, and Corrine; Great- grandchildren and Great-Great grandchild and a host of nephews, nieces and neighbors.
